This is a performative lecture given as part of the Nunhead and District Municipal Museum & Art Gallery’s programme on an invented history entitled The Origin of Fluxus. The lecture was performed in collaboration with Andee Collard as AMALGUM. In the lecture we explain the origin of the Fluxus movement as having started over a chance encounter between John Cage and Allen Kaprow in Nunhead in the early 1960s. The encounter led to a walk in the nearby cemetery. The lecture was followed by a happening in which members of the audience were asked to chew pieces of AMALGUM chewing gum.
