The Laboratory of Ideas was established at the end of 2015 at Freelands Foundation. The Lab is a forum for discussion, dialogue and ideas inspired by the salons of the Enlightenment era. The Lab hosts regular salons where invited guests gather to listen to a provocation and then discuss its implications and the ideas it inspires.
Salon provocations might include presentations, conversations or performances. To date the Lab has hosted Richard Wentworth talking about surfaces and peripheral vision, a panel discussion on space and whether artists need it and a performance about failure by artist educators Vic Hazeldine and Howard Hollands.
