Chinese Whispers 2011

his drawing exercise was literally dreamt up by Nick Lockyer, Welling Schoolʼs visual arts technician, who arrived at work one morning to explain he had dreamt about a lesson where everyone passed on a drawing to one another in the manner of the game Chinese Whispers. Henry Ward then worked with a group of students to realise Nickʼs dream. Each participant began by making an observational drawing of a small object. The resulting drawing was passed to the person sitting next to them and they attempted to make a copy. This copy was passed on and another copy was made. This process continued until every student had attempted every object. The first iteration of this activity produced 324 drawings
